CORONAVIRUS REPSONSE

We supported multiple efforts responding to the coronavirus global pandemic.

We are doing our part to support the individuals out in the field creating prototypes, producing personal protective equipment (PPE) and implementing innovative solutions to this global crisis.

Empowering coordination efforts to supply PPE

MatterHackers has created a hub to connect those who need medical aid (hospitals and government agencies) and those who can create it using digital manufacturing. ATHENA is supporting makers that are using 3D printing and other fabrication techniques to supply critical parts and components for medical facilities that are battling the coronavirus. This includes parts being created using 3D printers, laser cutters, and vacuum formers.

MAKER MASK

Realizing that cotton is not the best material for fabric-based face masks, the MakerMask project team combined materials science research and real-world know-how to design a series of face masks using spunbonded non-woven polypropylene (NWPP). This material is commonly found in reusable shopping bags, making it easy to find. Directions for creating the masks, including patterns and suggestions, are available at MakerMask.org.

ATHENA is supporting MakerMask (and similar projects) and the thousands of individuals working to improve and fabricate personal protective gear (PPE).

Building Momentum

Funds from Athena Rapid Response supported local small business, Building Momentum in creating more than 30 COVID-19 technology response prototypes. From UV-C cleaning robots and chambers to unique mask designs, to our highly successful desks-for-kids, Athena and Building Momentum are a powerful force when it comes time to respond to disaster.

Creating solutions for disinfecting equipment and buildings

Thanks to a grant from the City of Alexandria, VA, ATHENA was able to fund a local team from Building Momentum to design and build an autonomous robot that uses UV-C light to disinfect buildings at night. The prototype robot was completed in a single week and demonstrated to city officials!

Please donate above to continue this important development and testing work!
